Hello everyone!
So I am starting a completely new series on my blog (of which posts go up every weekday with different themes each day). Every Friday I will be uploading a fitness related blog post.
So this week I thought I would talk about trying to get back into shape. I have recently been working out (I have worked out every day of summer, which went pretty well considering it's, you know, ME)! And now, into the new year I am back feeling uninspired to do anything, however I do have some tips on how to just get up off your bottom and do something!
My number one tip for getting back into shape and getting motivated to get back into exercise and working out is....CLOTHES! I purchased some funky coloured sports bras, some new workout pants and a few different workout tops and it has been the BIGGEST inspiration for me to start working out because I find I look forward to wearing the clothes.
I also got some new trainers for Christmas which I had had my eye on since definitely the summer when I started my workouts. I got the Nike Zoom trainers in black and they are specifically for doing workouts (not so much running, so I have a different older pair I use for that still). They are one of the biggest inspirations I have had to work out as I love wearing them, they are unbelievably comfortable and I feel like I can get through a workout with them. It's amazing how much a pair of new trainers can change your views on working out!!
Another tip is to replace old habits with new habits. Now, some people might disagree with me on this but I genuinely believe it's important to have habits, we as humans are creatures of habits. But, as long as those habits are good then there's no problem. My biggest habit before summer was not eating, or forgetting, to have breakfast. I now make it a habit to have a big bowl of porridge every morning which normally helps me to not snack at all in the morning (although snacking on fruit or nuts is what I do if I need to snack). I add all sorts to my porridge and this factor changes every day, however the I have made the building bricks as it's always porridge. I generally add honey for natural sweetness and I never EVER add sugar to my breakfast, it doesn't really need it when you can add natural sugars like honey and fruit. I also mix in raisins with the porridge whilst it's cooking as it gives it a lovely sweet flavour and I love raisins (they also help to keep you regular, which is an added bonus)! I top my porridge with either chopped almonds (as they give you great energy all morning), slices of banana, slices of apple, berries or I mix in seeds like sunflower seeds, poppy seeds and chia seeds (which all also give you great energy in the morning). Porridge isn't for everyone, but try it and see what you think! To make my porridge I use 1/4 cup of raw rolled oats to 3/4 cups of water. I boil it on a low heat for 15 minutes and then add what I'm going to add.
I hope this blog post was helpful and let me know in the comments how you motivate yourself to work out!
I love you guys lots and lots and I will see you in my next one!
